iPod touch 6th generation or iWatch release date March 9th Apple Event

The iWatch release date is now set in stone, but is the iPod touch 6th generation coming along with it? Apple has set a media event for March 9th so it can give its smartwatch product a high profile rollout, which also gives the company one last chance to decide whether it wants to call the product “iWatch” after all, instead of the Apple Watch name it keeps floating. After months of waiting, those looking forward to the iPod touch 6 have reason to get their hopes up as well.

The iPod touch 6th generation was expected to debut at Apple’s September media event, but was held back for reasons most likely due to component strain brought on by exceedingly high demand for the new iPhone models. A month later at its October event, Apple took a pass on the iPod 6 again. Now it’s finally ready to hold another event, this time for the iWatch rollout, giving it the kind of stage which can and will be used to also roll out other, less high profile products.

The catch here is that Apple has said nothing about the iWatch being compatible with the iPod touch, meaning that rolling them out at the same event could prove awkward if they’re indeed not meant to work with each other. But even if that’s the case, expect the iPod touch 6th generation release date to happen very soon. If Apple doesn’t feel comfortable putting it on stage with the Watch, look for the iPod 6 to be launched via press release within the next few weeks if it comes down to it.
