More people worldwide have access to a cellphone than to a working toilet

“A new United Nations study has found thatmore people around the world have access to a cellphone than to a working toilet. The study’s numbers claim that of the world’s estimated 7 billion people, 6 billion have access to mobile phones. However, only 4.5 billion have access to a toilet.”

The above statement shows truly sad humans have become. The more advanced humans become technologically, the less “human” we become. We all love the stories that go viral, like the story and picture of the cop in New York buying shoes for the “homeless” guy around Thanksgiving. This writer is like all humans in hoping we will leave this world better for the next generation but in reality, when was the next generation truly better off than the previous generation. Maybe the answer may be the first generation after the Renaiassance and the ending of the Dark Ages. It was certainly not after World War II, even though there were many great achievements of that time but those achievements do not outweigh the millions who died under Hilter, Stalin, and the rest of the world.

Let’s be honest with each other! Humans do have the ability to be kind and compassionate but as a species, we only worry about ourselves and say let the next person worry about or deal with it. The world produces enough food to feed all humans, at least for now, but millions of children die before their fifth birthday because too much of the “developed” world waste so much. How truly “developed” are these nations when people in these countries are starvingg, homeless, and need medical health, whether medical or mental?

I am truly glad to say I will not be bringing a child into this world. For a brief moment of temporary laspe of my own judgement, I thought about being a father! I am sure being a parent is one of life’s greatest joys but that joy is tempered, in my eyes, by knowing how sad this world has become and that no matter how hard I may try, humans are destined to destroy the only home we have or each other before all the grand future plans we may have, such as exploring the universe or inhabiting another planet. We can not even agree to allow two people who love each other very much to marry because they are of the same sex or may have been one sex and became the other. Whether you agree with what someone else is doing, as long as they are not causing any harm to anyone else, what one does should be of no concern to others!

If humans are truly the great species we all think we are, we all need to come together and solve our issues with compassionate and compromise! If not, we will do to each other what we have done to the dodo and what we are doing to tigers and other animals! Humans will be the reason humans no longer exist, not an earthquake, killer cyclones, or any other natural cause! My name is Benjamin Damron and that is my two cents!
