Apple Watch preorders delays irk early adopters, Tesla app impresses
Nearly two weeks after the Apple Watch has launched, and the company is still struggling to fulfill the million preorders it took in the original six hour window. In fact some models don’t appear to be shipping yet at all, as one member of our staff placed an order for the 42mm Sport Black model just seconds after preorders began, and is still being told that it may not arrive until as late as May 27th – leading to the question of whether that particular model is even in production yet. However, those who have received their Apple Watch are having some fun if they also happen to own a Tesla.
It’s difficult to figure out the particular relationship between Apple and Tesla, the two most prominent innovators in the tech industry, which up to this point have focused on entirely different market segments. The Apple Watch doesn’t push the two companies any closer to being competitors, so it’s no surprise that an app has surfaced which allows the Watch to be used as a remote control for the Tesla electric car. However Apple is widely rumored to be working on an electric car of its own, which could position the two companies as rivals.
The Apple car isn’t expected for a few more years, to which some dejected Apple Watch preorder customers might be inclined to suggest is right around the time their Watch might finally show up.
