Elementary: Sherlock Holmes, Watson reunite in Season 3 of TV show
Elementary has taken a surreal series of plot twists and turns in Season 3, from Watson moving out of Sherlock Holmes’ brownstone, to the arrival of Kitty Winter to take her place, to the subsequent departure of Kitty, to the (recent spoiler alert) murder of Watson’s boyfriend. But after all the whirlwind, the CBS TV show has managed to put its main two chess pieces back on the board as they’ve always been. Now we get to find out how long they stay there.
Viewers risked whiplash as Elementary went from lining up Sherlock Holmes and Kitty to the point that it wasn’t clear within the storyline whether Watson was even going to stick around. But the Kitty storyline wrapped up with her getting her revenge and then bolting for London. Almost too conveniently, Watson’s boyfriend died shortly thereafter, motivating her to re-up with Sherlock in the Brownstone after all. Though the latest episode “When Your Number’s Up” ultimately established that she would be taking part time residence in the basement, so as to keep some nominal separation in place. The catch: Moriarty was briefly reintroduced along the way, in the most low key of ways, and she’ll soon be back to shake things up.
But the writers for Elementary Season 3, having finally reestablished the status quo for Sherlock and Watson, will have to decide just how long they want to keep things that way before finding a way to drive a new psychological or physical wedge between the two partners in crime solving. Our guess is Moriarty returns later in the season to create new tension, but viewers will have to wait and see.
