Florida State began its title defense with an opening game on the schedule tonight against Oklahoma State. The FSU Seminoles entered the season ranked number one nationally and still have the services of Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston, along with a game winning streak which has reached double digits. But the OSU Cowboys went 10-3 last season and are looking to make some noise in the Big 12 Conference this year. Tonight’s game was surprisingly competitive, with a final score that ended up being closer than most football fans would have predicted.
FSU went undefeated last season, winning all of its ACC games and narrowly defeating Auburn for the national championship. The Noles seem well positioned to repeat this year, but pressure is mounting on Winston to produce as a sophomore on an even higher level than he did as a freshman. That became evident early as he threw two first half interceptions leading to a halftime score in which FSU was only up by a score of 17-10. That lead fluctuated between three and seven points throughout most of the second half.
But in the end the Florida State Seminoles were the winner by a final score of 37-31 thanks to a touchdown pass from Winston to Rashad Greene with just under four minutes left in the game, though OSU did score a touchdown with two minutes left. The next game on the FSU schedule is at home against the Citadel, while the next game on the schedule for Oklahoma State is at home against Missouri State, both on Saturday September 6th.
