“You’ll miss me when I’m gone,” President Barack Obama said of Fox News tonight. “It’ll be harder to convince people Hillary’s from Kenya.” The President took the stage at tonight’s annual White House Correspondents Dinner and wasted no time cracking jokes at the expense of his adversaries like Fox, often making fun of the faux-controversies they’ve created about him in an attempt to site up ratings among their conservative audiences. The dinner was typically upbeat and humor filled, but that didn’t keep Obama from turning the tables on his opponents.
Fox News and various sectors of the Republican Party have spent the past five years trying to sell the story that Obama was somehow born in Kenya, then secretly snuck into the United States as an infant, with his birth certificate faked in case he ever decided to run for President. As ludicrous as the notion is, it’s become one of the main selling points for conservatives who have struggled to find any actual controversies surrounding the remarkably scandal-free President.
By pointing out that republicans would never try to claim a white person like Hillary is secretly from Kenya, Obama also managed to take a stab at the racist undertones that have been present in most of the phony scandals his adversaries have manufactured. Even on a night when it was all laughs, Obama managed to get his point across loud and clear.
