The New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers headed into their preseason NFL football game on the schedule tonight in which one team’s three quarterbacks already looked sharp and the other team hadn’t yet seen the field. When the Giants played in the Hall of Fame game last Sunday, starting quarterback Eli Manning, veteran reserve Curtis Painter, and young backup Ryan Nassib all had high completion rates. Tonight the story was somewhat different, in a game whose final score was decided by four points.
Ben Roethlisberger and Eli Manning both saw limited time on the field, and neither did much with it accordingly. Curtis Painter of the NY Giants had the best night of any quarterback, throwing a touchdown pass and notching a passer rating of 146. Nassib had an average night, going 12-21 and no TDs or interceptions. For Pittsburgh, Bruce Gradkowski and Landry Jones both had nondescript nights. The biggest story of the game may have been the rushing performance of Rashad Jennings, who had 85 yards and a touchdown on five carries. But the final score was determined by the backups.
The New York Giants were the winners over the Pittsburgh Steelers by a final score of 20-16. The next game on the Giants schedule is Saturday night at the Indianapolis Colts. The next game on the schedule for the Steelers is at home against the Buffalo Bills, also on Saturday night.
