Dion Jordan, bust, suspended: Jason Taylor to Miami Dolphins rescue

Jason Taylor has spent part of the summer trying to teach young Miami Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan how to perform better on the field. Now he may have to teach him how to act like a professional off the field as well - as the NFL has suspended him for the first four games of the season due to a banned substance. Jordan, who saw the field sparingly and played inconsistently in his rookie year after the team traded up to take him third overall in the first round, was already on the verge of being a draft bust. But now Jason Taylor may be his only hope of getting back onto the field at all.

Dion Jordan was the final first round draft pick made by former Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland, and in retrospect, the final nail in the coffin of his career. Miami didn’t need Jordan, but traded up to take him while ignoring the fact that the team needed serious offensive line help - which ultimately devolved into the Bullygate saga. Head coach Joe Philbin never seemed to want Jordan, who was injured when he was drafted and came along slowly in camp. Aside from a handful of flashy plays in the middle part of the season, he was a non-factor on an otherwise strong defensive line.

This season was to be a fresh start for Jordan when the Dolphins brought in team legend Jason Taylor to mentor him at the position. But now the suspension means that Dion Jordan won’t be a part of the team’s early season plans yet again. Combined with Philbin’s penchant for quickly bouncing players with such issues, the fact that he’s a high first round pick and has the salary cap complications to go along with it may be the only reason he’ll still be in uniform by the time he’s eligible to return to the field after Miami’s bye in week six.

The question now for Jason Taylor is how deep he’s willing to go with Dion Jordan in the hopes of resuscitating him. Meanwhile fans are stuck between asking how Jordan could have played that poorly while he was allegedly using performance enhancing steroids, and half seriously wondering if Taylor might be willing to suit up again instead.
