Dallas Cowboys 2015: powerhouse O-Line suddenly faces injury concerns
The verdict on the Dallas Cowboys in 2015 is supposed to be that their offensive line is so phenomenal, the departure of running back DeMarco Murray won’t hurt their playoff aspirations; the team could line up a turtle in the backfield and the turtle would still gain a thousand yards on the season. But hold on, because suddenly the Cowboys line has been hit by so many preseason injuries that the team has acknowledged it stopped practice early today because it was running out of healthy bodies. So what does it mean for the Super Bowl aspirations in Dallas?
The Cowboys put on their best postseason run in several years last season, coming within one controversial catch/non-catch of making it to the NFC Championship game. It was a season in which head coach Jason Garrett was supposed to be worrying about his job being on the line, and in which quarterback Tony Romo was in danger of being labeled a regular-season wonder. But everything coalesced at just the right time in 2014, and Dallas came closer to the Super Bowl than most observers outside of its own fan base had expected. Now, however, there is cause for concern.
The good news for Cowboys fans: it’s still just a few days into the preseason, with three-plus weeks for mildly injured offensive linemen to heal up before needing to take the field for real. The bigger question may be how Dallas will manage to get through the rest of its exhibition games without enough linemen to go around; camp bodies may have to be plunged into meaningless action simply so the preseason can carry onward.
