With the path all but cleared for Adrian Peterson to return to the NFL, the groundwork will inevitably begin for his trade from the Minnesota Vikings to the Dallas Cowboys. The Vikings say they want to keep him in the fold, but at this point that looks more like posturing in the hopes of increasing his trade value, particularly with Peterson having hinted that he wants to move on. But just how much are Jerry Jones and the Cowboys willing to pay for him?
Adrian Peterson is the rare running back who can change a team dynamic in an era in which most teams rely on interchangeable dime-store running backs who are casually used up and tossed aside. But he’s also thirty years old, the dividing line after which most NFL running backs are never heard from again. And he’s injury proof. And his contract is oversized for a running back. And he brings a good deal of baggage and controversy with him which extends beyond the football world. But none of that may stop the Dallas Cowboys from going after him, particularly after losing DeMarco Murray in free agency. So how much will they give up?
With one or both of Todd Gurley and Melvin Gordon likely available to the Dallas Cowboys in the first round, it’s unlikely they’d be willing to ship that pick in exchange for Adrian Peterson. In fact his value could be much lower than that, if only because the pool of teams willing to trade for him may be small - and in fact may be just the Cowboys. But look for a deal to get done no later than draft day, as a deal just makes too much sense for both sides.

AP to Cleveland, and Dallas will try to work some other magic and acquire Manzel
AP would be kicking and screaming and screaming and kicking if the Vikings traded him to the woeful Browns. But as a Vikings fan, I like it. We get a couple firsts and another pick, AP goes to the AFC, we get Melvin Gordon, and the malcontent will learn the hard way that the grass ISN’T greener on the other side. Go Vikes!
the vikes are only credible with AP. Without him the vikes become another sub-par team
Not a chance of that happening
Vikings have nothing to lose if they keep him. They have zero salary cap issues this year or next year with his contract and if he sits out the owners put 12 million dollars back in their pocket and AP looks bad. Unless someone came with a crazy offer the Vikes should keep AP
The only way the Dallas gets AP is with more than just a 1st round pick. No way does MN hand them a Super Bowl or 2 in the next 3 years without a huge return. They would trade to another team for less but not Dallas or any other team that has a chance, like the Cards, and if they want to win at least 1 Super Bowl in the next 3 years they should be more than willing to give up quite a lot.
So they can either pay up or take a chance on AP playing for MN and knocking them out in the playoffs.
Knocking Dallas out? The Vikings have to make the playoffs to do that don’t they? LOL
I think Minnesota should trade Peterson for sean lee from dallas and a 2nd round pic
AP makes the Vikings a contender. Without him they are pretenders. How about if Dallas gives Minnesota 8 players for AP. After all they would only be returning what MN gave them for Herschel Walker at the same age. Dallas will need to cough up a #1 this year, a #1 next year and a #2 the year after if they want him. Other than Aaron Rodgers, AP is the best player in the game. Anything less is foolish. AP will not be wearing a Dallas uniform in 2015.
Peterson isn’t going anywhere.
He has a three year contract and the Vikes have made it clear they do not intend to trade him.
If they had any idea of letting him go they would let people know to check the field and check his worth.
It is silly to continue to talk about trades when a man is under contract and the team says we are not trading him.
