The MTV VMA Video Music Awards 2014 are taking place tonight, as the “Music Television” channel places its focus back on music for the annual awards show. Tonight’s west coast event has a late live start time on the east coast. The VMA schedule includes performances from Maroon 5, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj and Usher among others, and uses as series of presenters to cover for the fact that it has no official host.
MTV originally debuted decades ago as a TV channel which exclusively played music videos, acting as a force in the popularity of new and existing musicians and bands. The VMA awards became a focal point of that influence. Over the years MTV gradually shifted toward reality television programming and away from videos, but the VMAs remain a relevant day on the schedule to this day.
Tonight’s MTV VMA Video Music Awards 2014 have a live start time schedule of 9:00pm eastern time and will naturally air on TV channel MTV.
