The Minnesota Vikings were still unofficially looking for a starting quarterback heading into tonight’s NFL preseason schedule football game against the Kansas City Chiefs, who are set at the position. Neither team necessarily got the answers it was looking for in tonight’s game, as the QB position was a mess in general throughout the game, which ended up being decided by a whopping eighteen point score differential.

Matt Cassel seemed to take a major step forward toward winning the Minnesota starting quarterback job with a strong preseason start last week, but then rookie Teddy Bridgewater had an impressive second half which culminated in the winning touchdown drive. This time around Cassel looked merely average, going 9 of 17 passing with one touchdown score and one interception. Bridgewater took over and went 4 for 7 with two touchdown scores, meaning the quarterback controversy will continue on at least some level for another week. The Chiefs may have more to worry about, however, as Alex Smith had an off night with two interceptions.

The Minnesota Vikings were the winner over the Kansas City Chiefs by a final score of 30-12. The next game on the Vikings schedule is at the Tennessee Titans this Thursday night, while the next game on the schedule for the Chiefs is at the Green Bay Packers, also on Thursday evening.

The Kansas City Chiefs and the Carolina Panthers faced each other tonight in a Sunday Night Football game, and even though it’s still the NFL preseason schedule, all eyes in the pro football world were watching. The Chiefs are looking to build on last season’s postseason run which saw them score at will in the playoffs but fail to keep the Colts from scoring at will. The Panthers are looking to overcome personnel shifts at wide receiver. Both teams got mixed results, along with a final score which was more indicative of how the second half went.

Cam Newton looked like less than his usual self for Carolina in going four for nine with no touchdowns or interceptions. The good news: his injured ankle didn’t appear to be a major hindrance. The bad news: he didn’t quite gel with any of his new Panthers receivers. Alex Smith had a somewhat better night for Kansas City, completing an efficient fourteen of twenty-two passes for the Chiefs. Derek Andersen had the best night of any quarterback, notching a 141 passer rating in relief action. In the end, the game came down to a pair of touchdowns scored in the third quarter.

Andersen threw one touchdown pass for the Carolina Panthers and Fozzy Whittaker rushed for another, making them the winner over the Kansas City Chiefs by a final score of 28-16. The next scheduled game for the Panthers is at the New England Patriots on Friday night, while the next game on the KC Chiefs schedule is at home against the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday night.

The Cincinnati Bengals and the Kansas City Chiefs kicked off their NFL preseason tonight with a game against each other in which each team had something to prove. Both teams marched into the playoffs last season but neither accomplished as much in the postseason as it wanted to, and now each team attempts to take a needed step forward. And each team did - but only on one side of the ball. Final score and upcoming schedule for both teams below.

Cincinnati rewarded starting quarterback Andy Dalton with a hundred million dollar-plus contract, and he responded with a hundred-plus passer rating in limited action. Jason Campbell didn’t look as strong with the second string Bengals. For the Chiefs, Alex Smith was once again Mr. Reliable in limited action, while Chase Daniel also turned in a positive performance in what turned out to be a longer stay on the field. The caveat for both teams: the defenses mostly laid down and allowed the offenses to do whatever they wanted. In the end, with eighty points scored between them, the game was decided by just two points.

In the end the Kansas City Chiefs won the game over the Cincinnati Bengals by a final score of 41-39. The next game on the schedule for the KC Chiefs is on Sunday night, August 17th, at the Carolina Panthers and airing on the FOX network.
