Cynthia Lennon dead: wife of John Lennon dies of cancer

Cynthia Lennon, the ex-wife of founding Beatle John Lennon, has passed away at the age of seventy-five due to cancer. The two were married long enough to produce a son Julian Lennon but famously split after John got involved with Yoko Oko. Cynthia had remained somewhat out of the public eye in her later years, but was seen publicly embracing Ono at an event in recent years.

Despite her death on April 1st, this is certainly not an “April Fools” prank of any sort. The news comes directly from Julian Lennon’s publicist, who stated that “Cynthia Lennon passed away today at her home in Mallorca, Spain following a short but brave battle with cancer. Her son Julian Lennon was at her bedside throughout. The family are thankful for your prayers. Please respect their privacy at this difficult time.”

After her split with John Lennon, Cynthia got married again to Roberto Bassanini and then to John Twist, and then later to Noel Charles, with whom she remained until his death two years ago. She unveiled the John Lennon Peace Monument in Liverpool in 2010. Julian was her only child, and has pursued his own career in music and photography.
