The Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks kicked off the 2014 NFL regular season schedule with a west coast game tonight in which the defending Super Bowl champion hosted an expected Super Bowl favorite. The Seahawks went into the game looking to overcome some key personnel losses in the name of repeating as champions this season, while the Packers are hoping their offense and defense finally click at the same time and allow them to get back to the big game. In the end, the final score was decided by twenty points and it wasn’t a competitive contest.
Russell Wilson had a solid game for Seattle, throwing for 191 yards and two touchdown scores. Marshawn Lynch quietly pounded out 110 yards on the ground to go along with it. The game initially appeared to be placed in jeopardy by safety Earl Thomas, who muffed an attempted punt return. But a mediocre night by Aaron Rodgers kept Green Bay from putting its normally high powered offense into gear. He had one tipped interception which wasn’t his fault, along with a fumble which the Seahawks converted into a safety. Richard Sherman had a big night by never being thrown at, shutting down half the field as per usual.
The Seattle Seahawks were the winner over the Green Bay Packers by a final score of 36-16. The next game on the Seattle schedule is at the San Diego Chargers on Sunday afternoon September 14th, while the next game on the schedule for Green Bay is at home against the New York Jets, also on the 14th.
